James Spann’s
Skywatchers:
James Spann’s Skywatchers began with a simple idea: no radar or satellite can match the value of trained eyes in the field. Launched in 2001, this grassroots network was built to connect trusted Alabamians who could report real-time weather observations, storm photos, and breaking news from their communities. What started as email reports has grown into a vital part of Spann’s severe weather coverage—informing live broadcasts, saving lives, and building a community grounded in service and trust.
Today, Skywatchers use a modern Slack workspace to share alerts, radar updates, and images quickly and efficiently. But beyond the tools, being a Skywatcher means joining a passionate team committed to ethical, accurate, and drama-free reporting. Members serve as trusted ground truth sources for James Spann while gaining weather knowledge, exclusive discounts, and a sense of purpose. If you're 18 or older, live in Alabama, and want to make a real difference, we invite you to apply and be part of something bigger.
